Energy Cost Benchmark

How does your energy spend compare with similar sites? We are building the tool that answers it.

Every other number in a hospitality P&L has a benchmark. Food cost, labour percentage, rent as a share of sales, operators know roughly where they should sit. Energy does not, which is why it tends to go unexamined until a renewal lands.

What it will do

  • Compare your energy cost per cover, and per square foot, against comparable hospitality sites
  • Show where a site sits in the range rather than against a single average, a late-night bar and a daytime café are not the same business
  • Separate what is a tariff problem from what is a consumption problem, because they have completely different fixes
  • Flag sites in an out-of-contract or deemed rate, which is where the worst pricing lives

Built with Rye

We are building this with Rye, a utilities procurement platform for multi-site hospitality and retail. They handle contracting, metering and usage monitoring, and they hold the sector benchmark data that makes a comparison like this meaningful rather than a guess.

Worth being clear: Rye is a commercial partner and we may receive a fee where an operator goes on to work with them. That does not change what the tool tells you, but you should know it before you use it.

Register your interest

If you would like to be told when it is live, or to be part of the group we test it with, leave your details and we will be in touch.

In the meantime, the other calculators are live, break-even, gross profit, recipe costing and tronc.
